India Solar Compass Q3 2021


This report provides a detailed update of all key sector developments and trends in the quarter – capacity addition, leading players, tender and policy announcements, equipment prices, financial deals and other market developments. It also provides market outlook for the next two quarters.

India added 2,205 MW solar power capacity in Q3 2021, taking total installed capacity to 47,322 MW by 30 September 2021. Utility-scale solar installations dipped marginally over previous quarter amidst increasing cost of project execution and module supply disruption. Total project pipeline – projects allocated to developers and at various stages of development – stands at 62,179 MW.

The quarter saw rising module prices and risk of delayed shipments. Many module suppliers are believed to be renegotiating module prices and/ or delaying shipments because of supply chain constraint.

On the policy front, there was one notable announcement – increase of GST (Goods and Services Tax) on all renewable energy devices and parts from 5% to 12%.
