India Solar Compass Q2 2020

22 August 2020 | BRIDGE TO INDIA

India Solar Compass Q2 2020

India added just 351 MW of solar power generation capacity in Q2 2020 taking total installed capacity to 38,377 MW by 30 June 2020. Total project pipeline – projects allocated to project developers and at various stages of development – stood at 42,229 MW as on 30 June 2020. Capacity addition was significantly below (64% decrease QOQ) estimates due to extended lockdown and consequent effect on movement of people and goods. Project construction activity picked up towards the end of the quarter but labour shortage and restrictive work practices continued to affect project progress. We expect construction progress to pick up pace in Q3 and Q4 2020.

Rooftop solar added only 140 MW capacity in the quarter. The sector is struggling with contraction in demand, restrictive working practices, higher working capital and payment delays.
